EX-IM Extension & Fire Season Ends

EX-IM Extension & Fire Season Ends. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

The 2015 fire season has been one for the record books but thankfully officials say the season has come to a close. Rod Nichols, Public Information Officer for the Oregon Department of Forestry says as we all know, it was a busy one.

NICHOLS: It was another severe fire season, the third in a row for Oregon and also for the Pacific NW in general. We're finally out of fire season here as of today officially and it started early. We had some major fires in June and that's not typical, at least in Oregon. Oregon's largest fire of the year was in northeast Oregon. It was the Canyon Creek Complex, more than 110thousand acres. Sixty-two homes burned in Oregon this summer and countless other structures, non-residence structures but nevertheless important.

The House passed legislation on Tuesday to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank through the use of a rare procedural maneuver that defied GOP leaders. A total of 127 Republicans joined with all but one Democrat in the 313-118 vote to renew Export-Import Banks charter, which expired in June. The legislation would extend the banks authority into 2019. Supporters of the Export-Import Bank used a discharge petition to force the vote. The use of a discharge petition allows legislation to skip the committee process and go straight to the floor if a majority in the House backs the petition.
