Willie Nelson, an advocate of Biodiesel will share his dream of farmers fueling America in the 20th edition of Farm Aide scheduled to occur September 18 near Chicago, A message I support. Yet I must admit I have problems with other facets of Farm Aide. I feel Willy, and pal John Mellencamp's message has become less tolerant towards certain farmers. Farm Aide has evolved into a pro-organic platform promoting the small, albeit growing organic market as the only saving grace of small farmers. Yet the farmers I know see a bigger more compassionate farming picture. Organic farming will never feed third world countries, or slow rain forest deforestation by utilizing the latest technology to grow more food on less land. In this era of obesity, organic prices are out of reach for the poor who want to include fresh food in their diet. Willy misses the fact that he is simply promoting a new marketing category where mega- corporations are already hiding their identity behind homey labels. I would like to see a Farm Aide that aides all small farmers. Susan Allen and this is Food Forethought.
