It flies through the night sky, championing the cause of gardeners, and farmers everywhere& It's a bird, a plane&. no it's a bat. Bats are efficient insect predators so undeserving of their reputation in the horror industry. In reality life would become like a scène from a scary movie, if bats didn't exists we would be overrun by a barrage of bugs. The voracious little bats truly are amazing in their ability to keep insects in check and that actually translates in to less pesticides use by gardeners and farmers. As a horse owner I am always looking to increase my bat count knowing how harsh fly repellent can be to horses Gary McCracken a bat researcher from University of Tennessee says that bats in Texas devour 1,000 tons of insects each night a Texas size appetite for these tiny creatures. McCracken is studying the full impact bats have on agriculture and our environment, especially when it comes to eating moths whose larvae become bollworms and corn earworms and infest corn and cotton fields.
