USDA’s Beef Action Plan, including a voluntary product of the USA labeling program, is part of that plan, according to Undersecretary for food safety Mindy Brashears, another big part of the plan, which falls under her auspices, beef modernization.

“When it comes to food safety inspection systems, what we are focusing on is allowing more technical information to be applied to our inspection systems with a focus on efficiency. I want to

emphasize that we are still inspecting 100% of every carcass, every animal that comes through, even in the modernized system. But we found ways to make that more efficient and also allows for our industry to produce the product more efficiently and with better technology. Sometime in the fall, we plan to roll out our beef modernization rule and have that available for the beef system in the US.”

Once again, USA Undersecretary for Food Safety, Mindy Brashears. She says these steps are being taken in an effort to not only increase consumer demand but to expand processing capacity. The modernization will be similar to what has already been done in the pork and poultry industries.
