Common Ground Provides Uncommon Platformfindourcommondground.com. Washington Dairy farmer Krista Stauffer is the first Western states ag woman to join the ranks of farmers talking to consumers through Common Ground. She shares more about the organization|
Stauffer: “Common Ground is a group of women throughout the whole United States — mostly from the East Coast — I’m the first West Coast farmer to volunteer. Basically what they do is to connect farmers with the consumers. Their target audience is women — so you will see a lot of recipes. Connecting people with their food — connecting with farmers that grow that food and they are working on do television and cooking channels.
She shares an example of why it is important to have Western ag representation participating
Stauffer: “For example, just different things with the EPA . Having our cattle near or around water — we are not allowed to so on the West Coast as where there are able to do so on the East Coast. So it is really important for West Coast farmers start speaking up and taking a stand for what they are doing and explaining how they do things. So people who are typically two or three generations removed from the farm, can understand why we do things so when they go to vote and make regulations, that they aren’t doing things that will hurt our practices or put us out of business.”
Later this week, we will visit with Stauffer about her recent trip to New York City where she did a world wind media tour on behalf of Common Ground.
