Raising Angus the Wright Way

I’m Lacy Gray with Washington Ag Today.

Kent Wright is co-owner of Wright Way Angus near St. John and he says that they hope to establish the Wright name as one that is synonymous with genetic quality and the ability to use Wright cattle and services to help other ranchers gain economic success within the Angus and commercial cattle business.

WRIGHT: We send a lot of genetics all over the country - try to start as many ranches as we can. We’ve got a few starter herds out in the Midwest.

In fact earlier this month Wright was touring the east coast and the Midwest with a special stop in Tennessee to visit their first starter herd in that state. In addition to their angus business the Wrights are busy with several other services, product, and farming operations.

WRIGHT: We breed quarter horses and make all our own hay and do a few things like that. We’ve got a small clothing line. We like to think of ourselves as fairly progressive. I do all the marketing and kind of have a joint enterprise going with my Mom out there.

Wright says that even with all this they are looking to expand.

WRIGHT: We are trying to find another operation for me to expand to and just try to add another piece to the puzzle as far as our operation goes.

Wright Way Angus has had past success at the Midland Bull Test and Treasure Bull Test, most recently as the 2014 Top 10 Black Angus Bull in the WDA Sire Group and ADG Sire Group at the Midland Bull Test.
