Code of the West
The Code of the West has been an unwritten bible of sorts for those moving into rural Western towns and those of us who have always lived out here; business is by handshake, passing a pickup requires a wave, and cow's wander, so deal with it, are a few of the unwritten laws. Now the Code of the West has been incorporated into a grade school curriculum with over 150, 000 children learning lessons on ethics and sportsmanship from a cowboy's perspective. The mission of Cowboys and Kids, founded by Penny Conway and funded in part by Ford Motor Company is to "reach youth with a message of character-branding truths for today and tomorrow." And they do that by bringing the aura of the cowboy to the classroom. Rodeo is refreshingly unique from other professional sports, tempers and swear words rarely surface and you always give your opponent (unless it's a bull) a hand. To bring the character building Cowboys and Kids to your elementary school log onto www.reachkids.com I'm Susan Allen with Food Forethought.
