Ag Day Essay Part 2

Ag Day Essay Part 2

I’m KayDee Gilkey and welcome to Open Range. Here’s Greg with today’s report.

Thanks KayDee. Last week we spoke with Annette Degnan, Marketing and Communications Director for CHS about the Ag Day Essay Contest. She says CHS has made this a commitment.

DEGNAN: CHS has been a long-time sponsor of Ag Day which is an effort which is mounted every year in March by the Agriculture Council of America and we just have always looked for programs that support rural youth; to help people better understand agriculture in terms of being so important to many, many economies but certainly to local economies. In many small towns the local cooperative is one of the areas largest employers.

She talks about how you can submit an essay.

DEGNAN: Scholarships, which again are open to ninth to twelfth grade students are due January 31st so they would need to kind of pick up their pens or cameras and get moving. They would submit them online at the Ag Day website which is agday.org. Today’s students are very familiar with technology and and I don’t expect they would find any problems doing those submissions. So again, it’s an opportunity for a writer or a videographer to share what they think about agriculture.

And good luck. I’m Greg Martin and that’s today’s AgriBeef Minute.

Thanks Greg. Don’t forget Greg will be back each Wednesday with the AgriBeef Minute. Agri Beef Co - Real Families, Great People, Exceptional Beef. I’m KayDee Gilkey.
