The Lone Ranger Anniversary

The Lone Ranger Big Anniversary. I'm Greg Martin with today's Line On Agriculture.

The Lone Ranger which seems to have bombed at the box office. But the fact that there is a new movie highlights a big anniversary year for the Ranger. David Rothel, author of the book, Who Was That Masked Man? The Story of The Lone Ranger.

ROTHELL: It's actually the 80th anniversary of the creation of the Lone Ranger. It's the 75th anniversary of the movie serial, the first time that the Lone Ranger appeared on film.

I was one of those kids that grew up with the Clayton Moore Lone Ranger on television

ROTHELL: The glory days for the Lone Ranger were the radio years and the television years. Really radio even more than television although Clayton Moore created a Lone ranger that people grew to love and certainly if there had not been a Clayton Moore in the television years we probably wouldn't be talking about the Lone Ranger today.

Clayton Moore's Lone Ranger and Jay Silverheel's Tonto have become iconic manifestations of the original characters created on the radio.

ROTHELL: For anybody of a certain age, 50 - 60-70 years old you grew up with the Lone Ranger and the Lone Ranger was presented in a very serious manner on radio and on television.

That's today's Line On Agriculture. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
