Wheat Harvest Update and USDA Crop Production Report

Wheat harvest is in various stages throughout the Pacific Northwest right now as Crop Protection Services Marketing Manager Dave Barta reports

Barta: “The later it gets, the better yields have been, which is kind of what we expected. Some of the early stuff got hit hard by a May first frost and missed some of the later rains in the season and the later stuff is doing excellent yields are excellent -- a lot of it is average or quite a bit above average.”

Barta said the recent rains that have happened across the region might have hampered those still harvesting but it was positive for fallow ground.

USDA's crop numbers for August were released yesterday and USDA Chief Economist Joe Glauber shares the numbers for corn.

Wheat planted acreage numbers are up slightly from the July report, but down 7 percent from last year. Although there has been an increase in export demand for U.S. Wheat -- the report basically raised exports by 25 million bushels though in turn reduced ending stocks by 25 million. Even though the US ending stocks were reduced global ending stocks were bumped higher than most had expected.
