USPB Names New CEO

The United States Potato Board has named produce industry veteran, Blair Richardson, as their President/CEO. Throughout his career he has worked on both sides of agricultural marketing and promotions. Most recently he had been the CEO of a California treefruit grower, packer and wholesale marketing company.

In 2005, Richardson was recognized as a leader in the produce industry when he received the Produce Business “40 Under 40” award for both the domestic and international categories.

I had the opportunity to visit with Richardson during his first full week on the job and asked him about his thoughts on his new position.

Richardson: “Well, I think the U.S. Potato Board is well known as one of the better programs in the United States for Marketing Orders and Promotion Boards. It is certainly a great opportunity for me to step into a program that has been doing significantly good things for the industry members. I look forward to learning what all is going on and meeting the people and understanding what the opportunities and challenges are facing our industry. And continue the good work that has already been done.”

He is looking forward to meeting industry members.

Richardson: “I’m always available if anyone wants to visit and talk about their concerns, or their thoughts or ideas are. I’m available and look forward to meeting as many people as fast as I can -- I’ll be on the road this year doing just that.”
