5-6 SS Monster Elk

 Dave Holbrook, owner of Rocking H Outfitters In Colorado has traveled the world as a guide and a hunter.  He has been to Africa and taken a cape buffalo, a lion, zebras and black panthers. Now you would think that with experiences such as those, it couldn’t get a whole lot more exciting. Wrong, cowboy. How about an elk hunt to Arizona. “You have a pretty admirable bull elk that you took in Arizona? That is correct. The number 400 rolls off my tongue. 410 actually. He was a super bull. I was lucky enough to get drawn in Unit Nine in Arizona at that time. That was 25 years ago. We were up there, spotted and stalked and found this bull right at daylight. This was south of the Grand Canyon and this bull was coming out of a waterhole and going up a little ravine then headed back to jump the fence to go back into the canyon. When I got the bull, I was amazed, I knew it was a great bull but when I walked up to him, he was the biggest body I had ever seen in my life. His antlers were much bigger than a baseball at the base and they were huge the whole way up. He is a 6 x 7. You would have to see him mounted to appreciate the body size. I have another bull right beside him in my great room who scored 365 which is a heck of a bull too but when you see them side by side, you can really see the difference in the bodies of these two elk.
