5-3 SS AKC Details
AKC Master Title details. Yesterday we learned part of the regimen for a very unlikely English setter named Lou who captured the AKC Master title. The dog is in a large field hunting quail, must find a bird, then stand on point without moving while two gunners shoot the bird. That in and of itself is quite a feat but professional dog trainer Anthony Clinton says that there is a lot more to do. Listen up. “He cannot take one step. If he takes one step he fails and we have to try next time. If they shoot the birds successfully, I have to walk back to Lou, tap him on the head and say Lou, fetch, he will run out there, retrieve the bird, come back to me and then I have to continue on looking for another bird and the whole time while I am running with another brace mate who is trying to accomplish the same standards and if that dog establishes a point I am going to have to bring Lou in for an honor. So Lou is going to have to come in and see that he is on honor and he has to stop and stand through the whole process while the other brace mate finds his bird, flushes his bird, shoots his bird, and again if Lou takes one minor step it is all over. The judges will call a foul and we have to start from scratch the next time. That goes on for one half hour. He cannot make one false move, otherwise, better luck next time.” Guess what, Lou didn’t need a next time, he won.
