Interior Chief & Latest Supply and Demand Report

Interior Chief & Latest Supply and Demand Report plus Food Forethought. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

The Senate has confirmed Sally Jewell as interior secretary. Jewell, the CEO of outdoor retailer Recreational Equipment Inc., will oversee more than 500 million acres of national parks and other public lands, and more than 1 billion acres offshore. The President nominated Jewell last month to replace outgoing Interior Secretary Ken Salazar. The Senate approved her nomination, 87-11. Jewell is from Seattle and is a lifelong outdoors enthusiast.?

USDA’s latest supply and demand estimates show a continued slide in corn prices. The new report shows corn feed and residual use down 150-million bushels for the first half of the marketing year - only partly offset by a 50-million bushel hike in corn use for ethanol. World Ag Outlook Board Chair Gerald Bange.

BANGE: The reason that we took that up 50 is because we’re now looking at a lower corn price substantially so than we were before. The supplies appear to be there and also these so called RIN values have been escalating and pretty high.

Now good child nutrition. Gary Crawford has the story.
