4-8 IAN Algae DHA

I received a press release from Susanna Elliott at Alltech  International that said Opportunity Knocks for Algae at Alltech’s 2013 Symposium.  According to Alltech:  The world is abuzz about algae and their seemingly limitless potential. Lauded as the possible future of biofuels, a solution to carbon sequestering and a sustainable source of healthy fats and oils for food production, now is the time to find out more. Everything has the potential to be greener if we GLIMPSE the future of agriculture with algae, at GLIMPSE 2020, the 29th Annual Alltech International Symposium in Lexington, Ky., USA, from May 19-22. Pretty big words so I called Susanna to ask about the press release: “I am actually not the original writer, we all split up the writing on this symposium because there are so many different topics. I hope you are marking it on your calendar.” Yeah sure. Anyway something that interested me was the statement:  “We will focus on algae as part of the foundation of the food chain by identifying the importance of DHA and how it can balance the omega-6:omega-3 ratio in today’s Western diets.” Susanna told me that DHA is an essential polyunsaturated fatty acid found in cold-water fish and some algae that has been linked to the reduction of cardiovascular disease and other health benefits.
