3-19 IAN Bean Council

Sequestration at a local level. We’re talking beans.

Belt tightening is going on everywhere in America. Quite honestly, I have no idea what the whole sequestration nonsense is but if it means getting a little bit more careful with our budgets, then I can tell you that the bean counters at the Idaho Bean Commission are reeling in their expenses a little bit as well. The  Bean Commission resigned its 2013 membership from the U.S. Dry Bean Council because commissioners say growers weren't getting  a sound return on investment from  their activities with the group. I had a chat with the Bean Commission’s spokesperson Lacey Menasco: “The  Bean Commission was really at a point where we were taking a close look and evaluating where our funds are going and what can be the test use for our Idaho growers. How can we get the best return for Idaho. Right now we have chosen not to renew our membership with the U.S. Dry Bean Council  but that does not mean we won’t look at this issue in the future.”
