National Ag Day

National Ag Day

Welcome to Open Range, I’m KayDee Gilkey. Stay tuned because after the break I’ll check in with our field reporter, Greg Martin for the AgriBeef Minute.

I’m Greg Martin with today’s AgriBeef Minute. Ag Day is coming up and spokesperson Anette Degnan talks about this years event.

DEGNAN: This is the 40th anniversary of National Agriculture Day and the goal is to provide a spotlight on agriculture and to help people get a better understanding for how food and fiber is produced and it bring people together to really celebrate accomplishments in providing that safe, abundant and affordable product.

She says they bring about 100 collegiate level FFA students to Washington DC.

DEGNAN: And they go visit their legislators to talk about issues that are important to them specifically around agriculture and the future or agriculture. So it not only celebrates agriculture from a broad perspective but National Agriculture Day also provides a wonderful leadership opportunity and experience for some young FFA future leaders.

Degnan says historically there have been many local groups that have put on local events in support of Ag Day.

DEGNAN: Many Farm Bureau women’s groups have historically been very active.

And if you have an idea for an event you should contact them on their website, www.agday.org.

I’m Greg Martin and that’s today’s AgriBeef Minute.

Thanks Greg. Don’t forget Greg will be back each Wednesday with the AgriBeef Minute. Agri Beef Co - Real Families, Great People, Exceptional Beef. I’m KayDee Gilkey.
