Bayer Crop Science

Bayer Crop Science. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Line On Agriculture.

During the recent Potato Expo, Rob Schrick, Horticulture and Marketing Manager for Bayer Crop Science sat down with me a discussed a little bit about what Bayer is offering.

SCHRICK: Specifically to potatoes, Bayer has a wonderful portfolio, new poducts being launched every year and here at the Potato Expo we’re launching Emesto ™ Silver a new seed piece treatment. But along with that we have a complete line of fungicides, insecticides and we have a new acquisition in AgriQuest - a biologics company that we’re very happy to bring into our portfolio. And with that one of our tenants of our marketing strategy is an integrated crop solution for the grower.

Schrick says that Bayer is looking at the crop through the growers eyes.

SCHRICK: He’s looking to get that crop in the ground, protect that crop, raise it and get the highest yield that he can sustainably, year-after-year-after-year. And that’s the way we’re looking at crop production. So with that we do acquisitions like AgriQuest when we see gaps in our portfolio and gaps in the technologies that we can bring to growers.

He discusses how Bayer Crop Science looks at what farmers do.

SCHRICK: You know you’ve really hit on something here, at Bayer, like all companies we do our market research but we’re taking a different twist on our market research and we’re going down a path that’s called ODI or outcome driven innovation. And what we do when we work with growers and we try to understand their needs, we look at growing the crop as a job.

More on this tomorrow.

That’s today’s Line On Agriculture. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
