Merial Introduces LONGRANGE

I’m KayDee Gilkey with today’s Open Range.

According to an Iowa State University study, of all the animal health practices used for increasing production, treating beef cows for parasites gives the greatest economic return of up to $201 per head.

LONGRANGE from Merial is the first extended-release injectable cattle dewormer that provides cattle producers season-long persistent parasite control for 100 to 150 days in a single dose, dependent on parasite species.

Dr. Joe Dedrickson, DVM, director of Merial field veterinary services says

Dedrickson: “LONGRANGE is first in a new category of extended parasite control. And it is actually the first extended release injection approved by the FDA. The protection from LONGRANGE is long enough to break the parasite lifecycle. This reduction in pasture contamination results in cleaner cattle and cleaner pastures all season long. Therefore when you treat the cow, you’re reducing the parasite load on the pasture which is resulting in lower parasite infection in the calf.”

Dr. Dedrickson says this injectable beef cattle dewormer is administer in one easy dose.

Dedrickson: “To get the same level of control with conventional products you would need three or four applications. With LONGRANGE, producers can treat and control parasites in the spring and no need to spend valuable time retreating cattle.”
