Get Your Green On -- Celebrate 4-H Week
I’m KayDee Gilkey with the Northwest Farm and Ranch Report.
This is 4-H week. Personally, I gained tremendous confidence, public speaking skills, leadership, world travel and lifelong friendships from my time in 4-H.
Pat BoyEs Director of Washington State’s 4-H Youth Development, shares more.
BoyEs: “It is National 4-H week. We are celebrating our 110th year of 4-H work across the country and certainly here in the Pacific Northwest we’re excited to begin our 111th year of 4-H work.”
On Wednesday millions of young people across the country will become scientists for the day during the fifth annual 4-H National Youth Science Day. Participating youth will be making a robot out of a toothbrush and watch batteries.
October also marks the beginning of the 4-H year. BoyEs encourages families looking for activities for both youth and families to consider 4-H.
BoyEs: “Now is the perfect time to contact your local extension office. There is an extension office in every county in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. You can get your young person signed up for 4-H program. Find out what clubs and activities are in your area and how you can get involved as a family.”
If you are a young person looking for fun opportunities for involvement or a parent looking for a positive activity for your son or daughter -- 4-H really does have many, many projects to choose from and participating youth gain valuable life skills in addition to having fun.
