8-7 SS 7 Gil

 According to Rex Peterson of Horns and Hooks Magazine, not much is known about the 7 gill shark. That is about to change, next. Listen to this. The sevengill shark, an opportunistic predator, feeds on most anything including sharks, rays, chimaeras, and marine mammals such as dolphins, porpoises, and seals. It also consumes mammalian carrion including humans. Sevengill sharks sometimes hunt in packs, working as a team to capture large prey such as marine mammals and other sharks.  Rex tells us that the 7 gil is a fabulous sport fish: “Lately I have been fishing in Willapa Bay, Washington with 7 gill outfitters. We have been shark fishing 7 gill sharks and they are unbelievable. We are catching up to twenty 6 to 11 foot sharks a day.  they are unbelievable fast fighting action. They have huge teeth and jaws. They are a true game sport fish. It is all catch and release but it is tremendous action and I have never experienced anything like it. They have a 19 foot jet sled, we used 200 pound test with steel leaders and big giant 10/0 hooks. You take a J- hook and turn it into a circle hook and de-barb it. How long are these fish and how much do they weigh? Most of the fish we are catching are between 6 and 10 feet and a 10 footer weighs about 350 to 400 pounds depending on how big it is around. A 10 footer takes about a half hour to 45 min. and we have had 2 of them jump out of the water like marlin.
