6-18 SS Silver Creek 1
Every once in a while on Sportsmen’s Spotlight, I come across a story that is so rich, I can’t tell it in one episode. Terry Henneghan was an adventuresome young man from back East who had absolutely no idea about flyfishing. He comes to the Northwest, buys some gear from a local fly shop and takes off for Silver Creek near Sun Valley. Silver Creek is the operative theme. “I had heard everybody talking about this place called Silver Creek. So I went back in and I told the guy I want to try this Silver Creek thing and the guy laughed at me because he is the one who sold me the fly rod. He said you know you probably don’t want to go down to Silver Creek, it’s too technical. Most beginners don’t do well down there. I said, what would I need if I was going to try it? He’s told me to 12 foot 6X leaders and some Pale Morning Duns and a couple of spinners and off I went with my 6th prize and my 2 leaders. I went down to Silver Creek one afternoon and there was a pretty good hatch that had just started. I was wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt. I didn’t have a fishing vest. My flies and leaders were in the pocket of my T-shirt. I was in tennis shoes, no waders and I stepped into the stream and it was a lot muddier than I thought. 1st thing that happened was I fell and flopped in the water and I got back up and there were these 2 fishermen with vests and hats and float tubes and they were having a great time and they were just giggling and watching me thrash around in the water. What happens next? Tomorrow.
