Taiwan Table-Stocks Seminar

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the U.S. Potato Update.

Since last marketing year, the United States Potato Board has been conducting a Market Maintenance Program in Taiwan with retailers, importers and distributors to maintain relationships. A part of working with retailers in this program is to conduct training seminars for store and produce managers and their employees to educate them on the value of U.S. potato table-stocks.

United States Potato Board International Marketing Manager Sarah Mahler shares more of a recent seminar conducted for 25 employees of a retail grocery store.

Mahler: “During that seminar our US Potato Board representative introduced U.S. potato varieties and their nutritional benefits and provided training on proper storage and handling to maintain US potato quality once its in Taiwan. And as a part of that training we also had an executive chef demonstrate different recipes using U.S. potatoes to show the convenience, quality and taste of U.S. potatoes.”

Mahler explains the why behind USPB’s focus on educating the retail grocery store employees.

Mahler: “These seminars are important because retail store employees are often times the first point of contact for education for consumers. So having an educated team in store will help us promote U.S. potatoes, their high quality and their versatility.”
