Tree Fruit Industry Awards Grants. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

The Washington Apple Education Foundation (WAEF) Farmworker Education Committee selected eleven recipients this spring to receive grants. Jennifer Witherbee, executive director of the Foundation.

WITHERBEE: Each year the Washington Apple Education Foundation has an invitation open to community and school programs that are assisting farmworker families scholastically through innovative programs that touch on those key priority areas of our interest to apply for funding and this year we selected 11 different organizations.

Slightly over $23,000 was awarded to those 11 community and school programs. Witherbee says this really helps those farmworker families gain educational opportunities. Witherbee talks about eligibility for the grants.

WITHERBEE: Any community or school program is eligible to apply. We have a review committee that does a very thoughtful review process. They are looking to those programs that are specifically targeting farmworker families and focusing in on scholastic success.

If you have any questions regarding the grants visit the Foundation’s website at www.waef.org.
