3-29 SS Mike's Cape
Mike Eastman founded Eastmans’ Hunting Journals and is the consummate professional hunter. He has hunted all over America but also got his credentials as a professional hunting guide in Africa. We’ve all heard of black death, otherwise known as a cape buffalo. Mike has a fascinating description of their dangerous traits. “A buffalo is different than any other ungulate animal. He has the most adrenaline of any animal in the world. When they turned to charge, 99% of the time they won’t quit, even if you hammer them, if you don’t kill them they won’t quit. They will keep coming and they will not veer off at the last minute like sometimes the lion will do if you pound the lien, even if you wound him a lot of times he will veer off when he is hurt but not a Buffalo. They are extremely aggressive when they get older. Old bulls will stay one or 2 of them together, they won’t stay in a hurd. These old bulls are off by themselves and so they have to be aggressive because the Lions are just harassing them and trying to kill them. So anything that looks like a threat they will either run or charge and if they charge you have to hammer them or they will make you into a grease spot. They are not going to just come up and hit you and keep going. Most people think they charge like a bovine bull, put their head down and charge. They don’t. They put their nose in the air and they watch you. Just before they get there like within 10 yards, they will dip their horn and that’s when they will lose sight of you. They are dipping their horn because they are going to hook you.
