03/08/05 R-CALF fund raiser in Lewiston

American Rancher March 8, 2005 The Lewiston Livestock Auction in Idaho is hosting its debut sale for R-CALF USA at noon this Wednesday March 9th. Shae Dodson, Communications Coordinator for R-CALF says two calves will be auctioned off in the roll-over sale fund raiser. Dodson: "High bids might start as high as $2500 and then work their way down to $100 to $250 dollars. Then each time the animal reaches its peak then the animal is re-donated back into the ring and the whole process starts over. So we might have from 100 to 200 bidders on one animal. They are all donating the money back to R-CALF. Once the crowd is exhausted the last bidder gets to take the animal home if they wish and sometimes they sell the animal and donate the proceeds right back to R-CALF." Everyone who donates at least $50 will receive a one-year membership to R-CALF USA. For all of last year calf sales generated about 475-thousand dollars for R-CALF and Dodson says they are ahead of that already in 2005. Dodson: "In just two months, January and February of 2005, we have raised almost 500-thousand dollars and we still have to process about 26 calf sales." R-CALF USA recently won that preliminary injunction to stop the reopening of the U.S. border to Canadian live cattle. I'm Bob Hoff.
