Labor Conference
Labor Conference. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.
For the past several days we have been talking with Dan Fazio, Director of the Washington Farm Labor Association about the troubles with the lack of farm workers. He says there is an upcoming conference that everyone needs to attend.
FAZIO: We have the annual Labor Conference February 16th in Ellensburg, this is our 8th year for the conference. This year we’re really excited in that we have a special leadership summit from Washington State University the evening before on Wednesday the 15th where people can get some leadership training from WSU and then meet and greet all the speakers.
Fazio says there will be a lot of great information available.
FAZIO: We’ve got a really, really packed lineup right now of all the breakout sessions, all the agencies in one place where you can get the guy from Social Security, the guy from L&I, the guy from ICE all in one place and you can ask them the question, “what do we do?” “How do I fill out this I-9?” “How do we make this new workers comp law work on a state level?” That will be a big part of the conference.
2012 should be a crucial year for the labor problem so this conference should help lay the groundwork for a better year.
FAZIO: We’re just putting the finishing touches on the agenda right now so everyone needs to save the date for Thursday, February 16th in Ellensburg, all day and come over the day before. Registrations will be up and online within a week. People can information on our website wafla.org.
