Biofuels Push Hydro Boats & Endangered Species Act Reauthorization

Biofuels Push Hydro Boats & Endangered Species Act Reauthorization. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

This week, a conversation on the House Floor highlighted the fact that the Endangered Species Act hasn’t been updated in 23 years and Congress needs to do its job to reauthorize the law. The conversation begun this week will continue. Congressman Hastings and the Natural Resources Committee will move forward in the fall to examine the law by listening to citizens affected by, and interested in, the ESA.

HASTINGS: Within the appropriation bill was a prohibition on funds for new listings for the next year and that language was removed. I was in opposition to removing that language because I think the Endangered Species Act needs to be updated.

This weekend is our communities signature annual event, the 3-day unlimited hydro boat races and like a lot of things involving racing, the word biofuels is being tossed about. The Air National Guard Hydroplane Series accelerated its move to biofuels with an announcement that a blue ribbon task force has been established to convert the sport for the 2012 racing season. The alternative fuel is a blend of camelina-based biofuel and traditional kerosene fuel or Jet-A fuel. The task force will look at the feasibility of the tour's 14 turbine-powered hydroplanes using the fuel and the added costs associated with the conversion.

Now here’s today’s Washington Grange report.
