Wheat grower lobbies for research in D.C.

Washington Ag Today February 10, 2011 Representatives of the wheat industry were in Washington D.C. Tuesday and Wednesday lobbying Congress and the Obama Administration for continued funding of wheat research. Washington wheat grower and Grain Commission member Mike Miller was one of those in D.C.

Miller: “I believe that after meeting with a couple of people today they understand the plight. They understand the ARS funding problem. Are there any solutions? I don‘t know. I don‘t think there are any solutions that they see. But I can tell you that our Senator Patty Murray, Maria Cantwell and especially Representative Cathy McMorris-Rodgers, they are addressing this issue as we speak. We have their full assurance that they are looking at it as a collaboration to improve funding.”

As discretionary spending research can be a target of budget cutters.
