Estate Tax Issue & Weekend Weather

Estate Tax Issue & Weekend Weather. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

The lame duck session really is turning out to be just that, very lame and of course very little is getting done and that includes the estate tax issue. Washington Congressman Doc Hastings is not happy about that.

HASTINGS: Once again the estate tax right now is zero. Unless there is an extension of that zero it’s going to go up to 55%. I think that is terrible policy and that’s what the debate is here. We should not be raising taxes on Americans when we have a slow economy. Yet that is precisely what will happen unless President Obama understands that one of the lessons of the elections in November was we need to get our economy going and one of the means to get our economy going is to have certainty in our tax code.

Don’t expect sunny and 85 but perhaps some slightly warmer temperatures through the weekend. Highs may be overing in the mid-30’s but there is still plenty of moisture around. Spokane has declared a stage 2 snow emergency with crews working around the clock to clear snow. A stretch of Highway 21 in Idaho is closed due to avalanche danger and many of mountain passes are seeing snow building up. Be sure and check the weather and road conditions before you head out this weekend.

Now here’s today’s Washington Grange Report.
