Harvest Weather

Harvest Weather. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. A lot of folks are in the process of getting harvest going and of course always with one eye on the sky. Meteorologist Tim Creek gives us look at the northwest harvest weather. CREEK: As I look out through the month of September I do see a situation where I believe we're going to have below the average temperatures and a somewhat active weather pattern. I'm going to say it's going to be very similar to what we saw in May and June of this year where temperatures are just cool and we have a series of storms that continue to race through the area. I don't know if it's going to be wetter than average but I don think we'll have a higher than average frequency of the potential of scattered shower activity. Basically what we will see is when high pressure does develop it's going to develop low off the coast leaving the northwest under a northwesterly jet stream allowing storms to drop into the area from that direction. So all in all again I would say for the month of September below average temperatures, near or above average precipitation and a relatively high frequency – at least for this time of year of storm activity. One thing I think we're going to have to worry about especially as we get later into the month and into October unfortunately is the potential of early frost because in this type of weather pattern if we see a good shot of cold air move in and then high pressure build right over it, we might have a couple of days where frost becomes a main concern. I don't see that right now but it's something we'll definitely have to keep our eyes on in the future. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
