Here Comes the Heat

Here Comes the Heat. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. The question has been asked lately if we will ever see warm weather here in the NW. My wife and I tried to enjoy coffee on our new deck yesterday morning and gosh, it was too cold. According to staff meteorologist Tim Creek it looks like things are a changing. CREEK: We are finally going to see a stretch of weather where you can just say sunny, hot and dry. I won't even mention the threat of precipitation, plenty of sunshine, temperatures even above average. It's been a long time since we've seen on any prolonged period of time that have been at or above normal levels. The persisting weather pattern seems to be starting to degrade and move on. CREEK: We've been in a very active type of weather pattern which basically was a carryover from the winter, an el Nino type of pattern where there has been to a degree high pressure centered to the north over northern British Columbia, into the Yukon, into eastern Alaska and at the same time a storm track has undercut it with storm pushing into the west coast. Creek says we should be enjoying some nice weather for a while at least. CREEK: I don't think this is a situation where it's going to persist for the entire summer. It looks like we'll see another minor weather disturbance push into the area towards the middle of the month, could see a chance of isolated showers at that time, probably will see temperatures drop back to around average or slightly below for a few days and then the second half of the month will be close to normal both in temperatures and precipitation. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
