Ending One and Starting Another

Ending One and Starting Another

Ending One and Starting Another. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. One thing is for sure...there will be an apple season this year. While that is not a profound statement, it is a matter of fact now of course the question will be what kind of season. Todd Fryhover, Executive Director of the Washington Apple Commission says there continues to be good movement on the 2009 crop. FRYHOVER: So far the movement has bee really good. You know we're very close to the same sales volume export that we had last year. Prices are continuing to firm up and escalate and I think there's quite a bit of optimism out there to end this season on a good note. Right now supplies are looking good but Fryhover says that may change. FRYHOVER: We'll have an orderly remaining marketing season but the thought is at the current paces that supplies could get tight towards the end of the year. It is very early in the 2010 season but there is a lot of good talk. FRYHOVER: It is very early and we have a lot of frost season remaining. Things on the apple side look very good. We had a shorter crop last season so naturally we'd anticipate a bump back to normal volumes and I think we're seeing that right now again although it is very early to ne saying too much about crop volume. Up next of course will be cherry season and if my dwarf tree in the front year is any indication, it will be another big season for cherry lovers. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
