Horse Trader Dupes Celebrity
The horse industry has inspired terminology that has become common in everyday speech...words like front runner and home stretch take on meaning outside of equestrian circles. I’m Susan Allen, stay tuned to learn how one celebrity experienced the true gist of the word “horse trader.” Mention the word horse trader to a horse person and trust me....each of us picture unscrupulous dealings and lame horses. I still get ribbing me over a thoroughbred I bought at a track sale that was lovely...that is until she grabbed the shoer by his rear end and gave the jockey sized guy a viscous shake. Sedatives disguised her nasty biting habit. You’d think the rich and famous would be protected from bad horse deals. Not so... Tom Selleck of Magnum P.I and a host of cowboy movies like the Sacketts, The Shadow Riders, and our family favorite, Quigley Down Under, was victimized by a bad horse trader and like a good Sackett ,fought back. Selleck was recently awarded more nearly $200,000 dollars after he told a California jury he was duped into buying a lame horse. That was some horse and stables because the jury award was for the price of the horse plus boarding. This isn’t anything new, back in 1921 the owner of Playfellow full brother to Man O’War demanded his one hundred and fifteen thousand dollars back after he learned he bought a cribber. As lawyers battled, the case made headlines for over a year. Watch out for Horse traders I’m Susan Allen
