Learning Winemaking

Learning Winemaking

Learning Winemaking. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Winemaking is becoming a hot commodity here in the northwest and to prove it you need look no further than your local universities who have waiting lists for classes. According to WSU’s Brian Charles Clark, there is an alternative.

CLARK: So what we wanted to do for folks that just wanted to get into it and get the information they need was just provide the information in a way that they could download it and go through it in a self directed, self paced kind of manner.

The online courses do not offer any class credits. Clark says that WSU has spent considerable time and effort to make these courses available to the public.

CLARK: The amount of effort it takes is considerable to put one of these courses together. There’s a lot of faculty expertise that goes into developing the curriculum for each course. But each one of these courses is developed by a particular faculty member whose area of expertise that is. And these are the same courses that are developed for the professional certificate program.

These are great classes to get into if you have an interest in learning more or perhaps a desire for specific information.

CLARK: Everything is up and running and we’re adding more. Over the next several months we will be adding, I think there’s going to be a total of 10 winemaking courses and then we’re going to get into the viticulture courses so that’ll be for folks who want to grow their own grapes.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
