Hot!

Hot! I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

The weather over much of the northwest has been in a word, hot. It has been so oppressive in some areas heat advisories have been posted and local governments doing what they can to get the word out about trying to stay cool. But there may be some good news on the horizon according to NW Ag staff meteorologist Tim Creek.

CREEK: Much of the entire state of Washington has been under some very warm conditions for the past at least week. That is going to be the situation I think on average is going to continue for much of the month of August. But there is a change that is going to occur over the next couple of days by late Tuesday into Wednesday and Thursday that actually is going to drop temperatures back to or even slightly below average for maybe a 7 to 10 day stretch beginning again during the middle half of this week through much of next week. Presently an upper level storm off the northern California coast is going to begin to push inland, looks like through maybe southern Oregon and another disturbance to the north will slide by to the east and what that will do is cool our atmosphere off and push the hottest of the air to the east. We are going to see temperatures into the 80’s as we get into Thursday & Friday.

Even Governor Gregoire is asking water providers to redouble their efforts to promote careful water use among their customers, and she’s directing state agencies to encourage water conservation to help preserve water supplies.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
