Canadian Pork Bailout & Beef Association on Water Act

Canadian Pork Bailout & Beef Association on Water Act. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

The Canadian Pork Council has asked the Canadian government to pump 800-million dollars into the country’s pork industry. The key component of the program is a loan to pork producers of 30 dollars for each market hog to be repaid over 10-15 years. The National Pork Producers Council is concerned about the plan - and believes it would have a lethal impact on U.S. pork producers who already have lost an average of more than 21 dollars per hog since October 2007.

On Wednesday, Jim Chilton, a fifth generation rancher testified on behalf of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the Public Lands Council during a Congressional hearing on the Clean Water Restoration Act explained how the Act would threaten small business owners like himself.

CHILTON: The Clean Water Act pushes federal regulations to an unprecedented level of expansion, perhaps not matched in our history. More than 90% of all cattle ranchers are small business owners. Expanding federal jurisdiction is not necessary, will create an over burdened regulatory process for ranchers like me in these already tough times.

Now here’s today’s Washington Grange Report.
