Blended Whites

Blended Whites

Welcome to Vine to Wine, I’m your host Linda Moran.  I seem to be on a roll lately indulging in the wines of summer. Let’s talk about great blended summer white wines.

You know we often think of red wines as most often blended – like Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon or Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah with Grenache you know what I mean. But there are quite a number of very delicious blended white wines that are well suited to summer. Take the classic blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Crisp and lovely with shell fish and grilled veggies. Then I have also recommended you seek out the combination of Chardonnay and Viognier. This is a real crowd pleaser. Just recently I stopped in at Skylite Cellars in Walla Walla to do some tasting and I had a blended white they call Sierra. It is the unusual combination of Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. The two were so complimentary to one another. The perfume of the Pinot Gris gave the wine a delicate feminine quality while the Sauvignon Blanc gave it a spine with great acid and texture. There is no oak on the wine so you really get to taste the fruit and it was a treat. This is a good wine for the summer and lends itself well to many of our traditional summer salads and seafood dishes. Ask for blended white wine suggestions from your local wine merchant and you just may be surprised. Remember to send your wine questions to linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
