If you are interested in the history of North American horses you will want to hear about this dispersal sale. I’m Jeff Keane and I will be back after the break with a rare opportunity to  purchase horses listed as critical on the conservation priority list. Some breeds developed from Spanish horses that were introduced by explorers and colonists back in the 1500’s like the Marsh Tacky  are now listed on the  conservation priority’s  critical list, meaning the population of the breed is less than 2000 world wide. Horses  cultivated by the Choctaw Indians are number four.   Here is  Susan Allen.  Jeff If you have a passion to  preserve rare breeds for future generations this might be the horse for you.  Rickman Spanish Mustangs has had to remove all of its Colonial Spanish horses from the mountains  in southeastern Oklahoma due to a lost lease. 300 horses that the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy believes represents some of the greatest Choctaw and Cherokee bloodlines in the country. The conversancy is working with the Rickman’s to find owners willing to continue to breed these rare horses.  The Rickman’s need to sell  120-150 horses ranging in price  from six hundred to fifteen hundred dollars a piece. While they want to encourage breeders,  some horses are listed  as riding stock and like the horse in Hidalgo the Rickmans  have continued the Jones line of native American horses bred for  long distance riding so they might be perfect for endurance riders.  Susan if our listeners wand more information  There is a wealth of knowledge regarding these rare breeds on both the Rickmans and American Livestock Breeds Conservancy websites, Both sites with phone numbers  are listed at aginfo.net under today’s American Rancher. I’m Jeff Keane.
