Easing Economy for Dairies & Joy Riding

Easing Economy for Dairies & Joy Riding

Easing Economy for Dairies & Joy Riding. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

USDA Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack has been busy with issues from tainted foods to opening a new garden. He has also had time to reflect on the efforts to ease economic stress on dairy farmers.

VILSACK: Obviously it’s about supply and we’re working with the industry and working with the industry leaders – we’ve met with industry leaders and I think we have combined with what they’re going to do to provide some additional credit so that we don’t have a significant sale of dairy cows that would create some difficulties overall for beef producers. We’re going to take a look at how we can help reduce the supply of surplus commodities and that of course means looking at ways we can redirect resources into food banks and other folks who need those commodities. We’re also taking a look at export opportunities.

It wasn’t really joy riding, more like rolling but a 3-year old in Tacoma managed to get behind the wheel of the car and crash it into a storefront. The tyke’s mom had stopped into a store and yes, she took the keys with her. The 3-year old got out of his car seat and behind the wheel somehow shifting into neutral. The car rolled across a busy street and into a strip mall where it crashed into a store. No one was injured.

Now here’s today’s Washington Grange Report.
