1/16/09 New Favorite

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and as many of you know my new favorite wine is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time. I simply do not waste my time drinking wine that I do not like. Last week I conducted a wine tasting for a charity benefit and I tasted a number of fabulous wines, among them was a wine from Peter Michael of California. And yes it has joined the ranks of one of my new favorite wines. The wines that I was privileged to experience at a recent wine tasting were all stellar and included Abeja Cabernet Sauvignon from Washington, which I have mentioned in the past. Today I want to share my enthusiasm for a wine from California. The wine Les Pavots made by Peter Michael Winery. Les Pavots, which is French for the poppies, is the name of the vineyard from which the grapes are grown. The vineyard is on the rocky volcanic west slope of Mt. St. Helena in California and the winery is dedicated to grape selection and whole cluster pressing of the highest standards. The wine is nothing if not sophisticated and rich throughout the palate. The tannins are well knit with the fruit. It is a wine, which although it will cellar well, is drinking very well right now. But I must warn you the wine is spendy and not readily available. However, should ever have an opportunity to drink or taste wine from Peter Michael I recommend you do not pass up the chance. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
