09/24/08 The Image of the Apple

The Image of the Apple. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. Think of an apple and you probably have thoughts about good taste, good for you and a general positive attitude. Alan Taylor is banking on that as he unveils a new campaign around the apple. TAYLOR: Well, I've established an interest in apple imagery of all things. I've been studying what apples mean. Of course being part of the apple industry has kind of prompted me in that direction. When you study apples and apply imagery, you find that the apple stands for a lot of different things. What pops into your mind when you think of an apple? TAYLOR: It is of course a piece of fruit that grows on a tree but when you start looking into it, it has a long rich history and it's also something that's associated with health and it's associated with education and it's associated with our favorite pie, it's associated with America and it's associated with mom and it just goes on and on. And after a while you realize it's a symbol that really very powerful Taylor says he soon found himself putting two and two together. TAYLOR: It is a strong message and strong symbol and you also know the situation in our economy is anything but bright right now I started putting the two of those together and thinking perhaps the symbol and the feeling behind the symbol and the strength of the apple and apple imagery could be something that people could use to think more positively about the situation we find ourselves in. Tomorrow we talk about where Taylor is going with his apple imagery. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
