Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and as many of you know my new favorite wine is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time. I mean I simply do not waste my time drinking wine that I do not like. Today I want to share my new favorite wine, Kiona Estate Cabernet Sauvignon.
Last night I had the pleasure of attending an event in at Kiona Winery on Red Mountain in Washington state. Our host was the founder of Kiona John Williams, who regaled us with stories about his pioneering days on what is now one of the most sought after wine regions in the country Red Mountain. I also believe Red Mountain is one of the smallest American Viticultural Areas. Well although John could not have predicted the kind of success that has come to the area he certainly did not go about this willy nilly. No he and his partners had a scientific background which I got the feeling caused them to researched the topic to death whenever they made a decision. This has worked out well. Now we are the recipients of this visionary planting in the nineteen seventies. You see estate grown fruit from Kiona is delicious and as we tasted through the wines there were so many that I enjoyed but the ones with Cabernet Sauvignon were the ones that really stood out. I soon isolated one and you guessed it I found my new favorite wine. The Estate bottled Cabernet Sauvignon was a true standout with deep rich fruit, just enough tannin to make it interesting but not leave your teeth coated in wool sweaters and a smooth rich finish that lingers. It just doesn't get any better. Stop by at the new facility on red mountain and enjoy a visit to Kiona sooner than later. And thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
