02/07/08 Got Worms!

Got worms! That's what a commercial currently airing for the high tech industry asks. Here in the US the spot catches our attention when it infers we could have internal parasites, but in developing countries intestinal worms cause a variety of health concerns and are especially devastating to young children. Kraft Foods is in the process of developing a product derived from plant oils to be used as an ingredient in cereal bars, cheese, even pasta, (The Kraft Corporation is not ready to spill the beans on that just yet,) Whichever, it will appeal to children while killing parasites. This isn't news for the animal health industry . Gone are the days of struggling with paste wormer and having more on myself than my horse. Today I have the option to feed them a flavored feed that disguises the pesticide. If it works for animals it should applicable for humans as well. Mega- corporations like Kraft are always in the radar of activists thus it would be nice if these groups would applaud their humanitarian efforts once and a while, Hey maybe more conglomerates would follow suite.
