R-CALF Happy with MCOOL News, Stay Order Issued on USDA Relocation Plan

President Donald Trump recently signed an executive order outlining several measures aimed at improving the U.S. cattle industry, with a reinstatement of mandatory country of origin labeling as a centerpiece. RCALF USA CEO Bill Bullard.

“He has directed the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Trade Ambassador to review the authorities that the government presently has with which to implement the mandatory country abortion labeling system, and then he has acknowledged that Congress will likely need to be involved in this. And of course, we believe that Congress is the swiftest route in order to permanently reinstate country awards and labeling, but nothing immediate is going to happen as a result of that executive order. But it does send a signal that should help Congress to move swiftly to pass country wars labeling.”

Bullard notes that this is the first time that a president has recognized what he calls the crucial importance of MCOOL.

A federal judge in California has temporarily blocked the USA from moving employees to new locations as part of the department's ongoing reorganization. The judge issued an administrative stay putting a hold on deadlines for employees who have received management-directed reassignment notices. The case was brought by several federal employee unions. The judge says the state does not indicate how he views the merits of the case. A hearing is scheduled for September 29.
