U.S. Potato Exports Hit New Records

The value of all U.s. potato exports reached $1.76 billion for the recently completed marketing year of 2013-2014. This increase in exports was led by a 10 percent increase in the value of frozen potato products exports.
That increase it is pretty amazing when you realize that U.S. sale of frozen potatoes have remained relatively flat over the last decade; during that same time, however, frozen exports have grown 95 percent in volume and 175 percent in value. United States Potato Board Global Food Service Marketing Manager Susan Weller Weller continues with details of U.S. frozen potato product export increases by country.
Weller: “Central America 9 percent volume increase. Indonesia 37 percent volume increase. Japan — which 30 percent of ALL our exports go to Japan for frozen — 3 percent increase. Korea 13 percent. Malaysia 7 percent. Mexico 7.64 percent. Philippines a whopping 37 percent increase. Thailand 18 percent — which is incredible given the fact that we have had so many tariff issues. Vietnam 83 percent increase of U.S. frozen potatoes in volume.”
