Durability of Irrigation Center Pivots and Lateral Move Systems

Welcome to the Irrigation Minute brought to you by Reinke. Today we are talking with Reinke Director of Regional Sales Ken Goodall about the durability of mechanized irrigation systems of today.
Goodall: “Mechanized irrigation systems today are built and engineered to last a long time. The first Reinke machine ever built was built in 1968 and it is still standing in the field just a mile north of our plant. They are designed to be lighter yet stronger — they are using high-strength steel things of that nature. So you can build a lighter machine that is going to last decades. Basically if you think about a irrigation system along the lines of vehicles today. With warranties that are eight and 10 years — and up to 10,000 hours on certain brands — including the Reinke brand. You can equivocate that to 600,000 miles on a car because 10 years, 10,000 hours, 60 miles an hour. You could drive 600,000 miles in a car. Irrigation systems are built and designed to last for decades not years.”
Goodall says your local dealer is also a very important factor in an irrigation system’s durability as their service work and preventative maintenance can help ensure a system’s longevity.
He adds that there options as well to pipe material allowing choices for farmers when dealing with harsh water supplies.
