Safety Training. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
Yesterday Tim Waters, extension agent for Franklin County told us about a pesticide recertification seminar going on in both Pasco and in Moses Lake next week. He is also involved in another seminar in February that is designed to train the trainers.
WATERS: It's for trainers of pesticide handlers and agricultural field workers and this one is offered by the Washington State Department of Agriculture with the assistance of the Department of Labor and Industries.
Waters says this training is a federally mandated program.
WATERS: The train the trainer workshop is specifically designed to assist people who conduct pesticide safety training at agricultural establishments. The workshop provides trainers with basic pesticide information, worker protection standard regulations and training tools to deliver effective pesticide training to pesticide handlers and workers as mandated by the state and federal worker protection standards.
If you need to attend this Train the Trainer session, Waters suggests you pre-register soon.
WATERS: We're asking that the registration forms be sent in by February 1st and this course will be on February 13th at the TRAC. This event costs $25 and also includes refreshments and lunch and the check should be made out to the Lower Columbia Basin Fieldman Dealers Association.
