Farm Bill Renewal-AFBF

From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. The American Farm Bureau Federation is urging Congress to continue work on a new farm bill.

Farm Bureau Executive Vice President, Joby Young says many enhancements were made in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, but remaining programs need updating in the Farm Bill by September…

YOUNG … “The outlook for that, you know, it’s mixed. In Congress, you’re kind of always preparing and advocating, and you’re waiting for that moment of opportunity to arrive. The end of any calendar year is always a time when you don’t know exactly what’s going to happen. So, we’ll be looking for legislative vehicles that we’ll be moving and advocating to members of Congress.”

But Young says there could be some bumps in the road …

YOUNG … “Of course, there’s a little bit of turbulence still from a political nature. There’s big debates amongst Republicans and Democrats about nutrition, title changes that were made in the One Big Beautiful Bill. And so that will have to be worked through. Our leaders in Congress will have to sort through those discussions.”

Young says they just need to keep things moving …

YOUNG … “But the momentum that we are operating from is, hey, the things that we’re talking about, these ag provisions that are so essential out here in farm and ranch country, there’s bipartisan agreement around modernizing those. That piece people agree on. So, let’s take that momentum, and let’s turn into something.”

Young says U.S. agriculture is still working off of the third extension of the 2018 farm bill, so it’s time to give some needed certainty with new legislation in place.
