New IPM Products. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
It will soon be time to start thinking about the coming fruit season and if your current IPM will be sufficient. DuPont has announced several new products designed to assist you with curbing pests. Dan Sherrod is DuPont Crop Protection's Development Manager.
SHERROD: Basically Altacor" is a new product from DuPont, it has a new mode of action and really the key in my mind is how's it going to benefit the growers. It has excellent activity on codling moth in the tree fruit apples, and also with its new mode of action it'll be an excellent fit in IPM.
Sherrod says you can rotate it with other compounds and has a large profile for toxicology and environmental aspects. DuPont hopes to roll the product out early this year and are very excited about it according to DuPont's Lars Swanson.
SWANSON: This year we had an opportunity since we're pre-registration we expect that in April 2008 to do large scale field trials and we had a lot of opportunity to collaborate with folks in your region to do actual commercial applications in the orchard and we saw excellent control, excellent results of the key pests including codling moth and the leaf roller species.
Swanson says that this new product will be another great tool in your IPM arsenal.
SWANSON: I think this will be an excellent fit for IPM control of the key pests in apple and one of the great benefits to the grower is Altacor" furnishes excellent plant and fruit protection.
